Licensing Guide

Nortype provides licenses for companies of all sizes and needs. We base licenses on your company’s total number of employees, since the typeface represents your entire business, not just those who install the font. For example, if your logo uses our typeface, it becomes part of your brand everywhere. Using this single metric makes licensing simple and helps you stay compliant as your company grows.

Nortype acts as the exclusive distributor and licensing agent for the fonts, which are owned by their respective designers. When you buy a license, you receive the right to use the fonts, but ownership and all intellectual property rights remain with the designers. The license is only for the License Owner named in the license. Each client or brand needs its own license. Agencies and freelancers must make sure every client has a valid license. If you would like to assist your client in selecting licenses, complete the process in our online store and press ‘checkout‘. You can then copy and send the Stripe payment link directly to your client for payment. The License Owner can share the font with one designer or agency working on their behalf. If more people need access, you will need extra licenses. Pricing depends on the License Owner‘s size, including the total number of employees, freelancers, and contractors. If the License Owner grows or their use changes, please contact Nortype to upgrade the license.

License Types

  • Desktop: For creating graphics, documents, and printed materials on computers.
  • Web: For use on one website (must use the web font file, not the desktop version).
  • App: For embedding in one app (mobile or web).
  • Video: For use in videos for one brand.
  • Logo/Wordmark: For use in one logo or wordmark (included in the desktop license if your company size is less than 51 people).
  • Social Media: For use in social media posts.
  • Other Types: This includes ATL advertising, social media ads, signage, merchandise, broadcasting, e-books, games, server use, streaming, corporate communications, packaging, and more. For a full list and definitions, see section 4 of the EULA.
  • Enterprise & Unlimited Media: We offer special licenses for clients with large projects, extensive needs, or unlimited media use.

Limitations

  • Do not resell, share, or loan the font to others.
  • Do not modify, reverse-engineer, or use AI to alter or replicate the font.
  • Do not use the font for any illegal or offensive purposes.
  • Use by religious, political, or similar organisations for any purpose requires prior written approval from Nortype.

Consequences of Misuse

  • Unauthorised use of the fonts may result in fees of at least double the standard license cost.
  • If you violate the license terms, Nortype reserves the right to terminate your license immediately. You will be required to delete all copies of the font.

Refunds and Support

  • Licenses are non-refundable once you have received the font files.
  • Nortype offers basic support for one year after your purchase. We can help with installation, file issues, and general questions about using the fonts.

Other Important Points

  • This guide outlines the primary rules for using Nortype fonts in clear, straightforward language. The legally binding terms are in the full EULA. If there is any conflict between this guide and the EULA, the EULA applies. Nortype is the operating name of Baat AS. For legal purposes, Baat AS is the company that owns and licenses the fonts. In this guide, ‘Nortype’ refers to the same legal entity as Baat AS.
  • Font licenses are non-transferable if your company is acquired, sold, or merged.
  • Norwegian law governs these licenses, and disputes are resolved in Oslo, Norway.
